Employment History

There is no specific work experience requirement at Kochi International Business School. Rather, we are looking for a diversity of employment activities in our student body, so no one industry or function is more important than another. You have an opportunity to describe your full-time and part-time employment history, including your core responsibilities, your most significant challenges, and your greatest accomplishments.

Applicants are required to produce answers to a series of essay questions so that the School can get to learn about the applicants as people and what interests and motivates them.

Essay Format and Instructions

All of the sections in Part C must be answered in full before an application can be considered. Please answer essay questions A, B, and C.

  • Please use a 12-point font, double spaced, and make sure it is easy to read.
  • Indicate which essay question you are answering at the top of each page.
  • Number all pages.
  • Save a copy of your essays.

Essay A: What do you value most in life; why? (Recommended length is 2-3 pages, double-spaced)

Essay B: Where do you see yourself professionally five years from now? How do you see your experience at KiBS contributing to this goal? (Recommended length is 2-3 pages, double-spaced)

Essay C: Short Essays — Options 1-3
Please select one of the following options. Your response should include not merely the outcome, but the thoughts underpinning your actions, and the process involved in producing that outcome.  You should relate experiences that have occurred during the last three years..

Option 1: Tell us about a time when you felt effective or successful. (Recommended length is 1-2 pages, double-spaced)

Option 2: Tell us about any community work in which you have been involved.  What was the most satisfying of that involvement for you? (Recommended length is 1-2 pages, double-spaced)

Option 3: Tell us about a time when you tried unsuccessfully to reach a goal or complete a task and tell us what you learned from that experience. (Recommended length is 1-2 pages, double-spaced)

In other parts of the application, we learn about what you have done. Here we learn more about who you are, about your values, your passions, your hopes and dreams, and about the experiences that have shaped your attitudes, behaviours, and aspirations. Do not try to represent yourself in a way you think Kochi International Business School wants - we want to discover who you really are.

Activities

You have an opportunity to add further to our understanding of you by describing your extracurricular activities in your application. Please note that, as for work experience, no specific extracurricular experience is more important than another. Again, we are looking for a diversity of club, community, or professional activities in our student body. That being said, evidence of a sustained commitment in one or two activities is more likely to demonstrate your passion than your minimal participation in multiple organizations.

Interviews

At Kochi International Business School, we have found that personal interviews also help us to better understand candidates. The feedback from interviews helps to confirm the impressions we have gained from reading the written application and may contribute new information not captured easily on paper.

Interview Process

All interviews are by invitation only. Candidates invited to interview have been reviewed and are considered competitive for admission. We do not have resources to interview every applicant to the International MBA Program, but we will interview every candidate who we anticipate will be offered admission to the class. We expect to interview between 150 and 200 applicants this year.

The interview focuses on you and your actions rather than on hypothetical situations, with questions related to the behaviours, skills, and attitudes we believe characterise good citizens of the Kochi International Business School community. We ask you what you’ve learned about yourself by reflecting on your experiences, and what insights they provide in terms of leading people and managing situations. You should take advantage of this opportunity to think about the people, situations, and events that have shaped you –you may be surprised by the many ways you’ve demonstrated your leadership qualities throughout your life;.

We want the interview to be mutually informative, so that you to learn more about Kochi International Business School just as we learn more about you. If you are invited to interview, the International MBA Admissions Office will contact you via email or phone. Please do not call or contact our office to request an interview. Please also note that we do not provide interview feedback.
